In 1978 Mr Lyndon Thompson opened a small engineering firm on State Highway 1, south of the Opihi River, fabricating small steel sheds. His team consisted of 3 men, all steel fabricators.
Over time Mr Thompson’s company grew and they soon started to erect small farm sheds as well as fabricating steel.
Mr Thompson’s son’s Craig and Vaughan started working at a very young age for their father, by the age of seven they were pouring concrete and painting steel after school and in their school holidays.
After training under their fathers guidance for 17 years, in 2002 Craig and Vaughan took over the running of their fathers business and formed Thompson Engineering 2002 Ltd.
Over the last nine years, Vaughan and Craig have continued to build the business to in excess of 30 staff and run the company in four divisions.
Recent projects include the 2500m² Drummond and Etheridge’s workshop/showroom and offices in Ashburton for their John Deere dealership and a large 3600m² store shed in Washdyke.
Vaughan and Craig have developed Thompson’s into an all round experienced company, who can manage all types of building projects from start to finish.
Their services include:
Design Department - Structural/Working Drawings, Steel Fabrication and Precast Panel Shop Drawings, Council Correspondence.
Steel Fabrication
Precast Concrete Fabrication
Carpentry Team & On-site Construction Team
Project Management & Contracts Management
Running projects from start to finish allows for the boys to plan ahead and be innovative, it ensures the prefabrication drawings are correct at the first stage so the building is accurately constructed on site. With their attention to detail, and ‘down to earth’, practical attitude, this well organised team result in buildings being constructed on time and to a high level of craftsmanship.
